my parents have an 88 c1500 chevy what just decided to die today while they were in town. they said it would miss occasionally but today just died running down the road. it has a fairly new fuel pump so i dont think it is that. i know its not a stroke or a ford for that matter but unless im mistaken just about anyone that has ever worked on a vehicle has probably come across a small block chev so like i said i am just looking for some advice.
thanks in advance

Take off a plug wire doesnt matter which one and put a spark plug in it and get a pair of gloves and insulated pliers and hold it to where the thread part of plug is against a good ground (i.e. the engine) and have somebody crank it over to see if there is any spark. No spark- check the wires, distributer, and the coil. Spark- fuel related check fuses and relay for the pump and check if throttle body is even getting fuel to it

Either the pump died in the tank or the fuel pressure regulator(common problem with them) is bad. The regulator is mounted on the intake undr the throttle body assembly. To check the pump for operation you can have someone listen through the fuel door and turn the key on and listen for the pump to run.
