You never know these days, I went to Waterloo yesterday was just north of Milan and had a loose tire come at me from the other side of 23, seems some guy lost a tire off his trailer, OOOOOPS. Luky for me Michigan can,t aford to mow the grass in the median, stoped the thing in a hurry before it got to me. I looked over to see a car hauler behind a 24 foot box truck with trailer missing a tire, LOL. I don,t think Benjamin would be too happy if his trailer got hit by a tire, He,s kinda partial to his digs on the road, LOL..

Yeh, There's 2 pairs of matching trucks. We both have white early 90's reg. cab F-250's w/ 460's in them. And she has 2 6.0's and I have a 7.3 and an old Kenworth. Needless to say we have a lot of parking space. We also have 5 trailers.

I also have a Kaufmann, I am going to keep it, I filled the center with Diamond plate, and painted it. Putting stake pockets on it, and build sides. I will have a very versatile trailer..
Here it was an open center, with dunnage for the pipe to set on... grossed out at 25,760 lbs here...

After filling the center with 500.00 worth of iron!
That got me started in the transport business,
Then I expanded to this,,,

My next step is to add stake pockets to my rig as well. I'll probably fabricate them out of 3-4 in C-channel(what ever fits in the original stack pockets), maybe 3-4 feet in height.

That way I'll be able to load this baby right up.

Dan

We'll I don't mind the height personally, it's a standard deck over height, the only thing I do mind is the height of the goose neck itself. I would like to see the main channels about 6 inch higher so I have more clearance going off road when the trailer pivots, this way I wouldn't have to worry about hitting my tailgate, even if i adjust the hight of the hitch itself to give me clearance it will make the trailer unleveled. If I decide to the future I might be getting it re-fabed to give more clearance

The other trailer with its standard load.

Got this back when our 92 idi was having too much trouble toying our old 18k+ camper nearly every weekend. DT530 with an alison auto, I guess its only one of 3 with the sleeper before the manufacturer went out of business. Dad made the graphics and got it painted to match the current trailer.

Well I could have uploaded the pic I took of the TC35DA on the car hauler we have here at the shop, but Sence I can,t seem to get pictures on this site you,ll just have to use your imagination. LOL. I just had the tractor and a 6 foot bush hog, the trailer needs to be a bout 4 feet longer for me to leave the loader on it or I have to put it up and hang it over the bed of the truck (bad idea ) LOL.

Am I nuts to? that tractor weights 6400lbs and the trailer is rated at 7k

http://inlinethumb17.webshots.com/30992/2649886620099937943S425x425Q85.jpg (http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2649886620099937943eaiPqa)

I wouldn't say nuts but pushing it a little yes. By 7k you probably mean that each axle is 3500lbs for a combined 7k load rating. But remember some of the weight of the load is transfered to your hitch so not all of the 6400lbs is on the axles, and even more so when the load is more forward.

This is why with a gooseneck the truck axle helps immensely to take some of the load off the trailer and on to the truck.

As they say...."Purts is purts"
I tried to get it cut up for short steel & ended up smoking the poor grinder in the process. Then ran through the last sawzall blade, all I can tell you Ford made a real TRUCK frame. :ford:
I did get that Reece hitch off of there, it's too narrow to be used on a pickup frame but if you had a welder & wanted to play with something it would be just fine. I might be able to make you a sweet deal on it...:poke: :D

its custom made its works with the 450-550 its going to weigh around 11k lbs with my gear in it. Legally I can pull a 16k lb load with it maybe a little bit more it depends on how much weight is on the truck's rear axle with no bed and the new hitch.

Where are you putting in freight bids?

and you might want to save some of the money from the looks, and put it towards performance like HPOS, turbo, injectors ect. unless that's been done
or your gonna have trouble hauling that trailer loaded

00PSD1
09-02-2008, 08:53 PM
there are a whole bunch of freight boards out there just don't haul cheap freight it ruins it for the rest of the people. Also the brokers are making bank on the shipments and you can negotiate a better price to haul for ... Also you need to have your MC/US DOT #s and be fully insured $100k cargo and at least $750k liability it costs a lot of money to get started up.

I am going to see how it pulls with my current setup and go from there but for sure i want to add a terminator and a bigger intercooler.

Not sure to be honest with you. If I had to guess, probably anywhere from 25,000-30,000lbs.

The truck is probably between 7,000-8,000lbs. The trailer is a load when there is nothing on it, I believe it is weighs more than 5,000lbs dry. The backhoe weighs roughly 14,000lbs. She was a heavy hoe but not as heavy as some.

The truck handled it fairly well, I felt bad for the BFG Allterrains that I had on it because they are load range D's. I have since upgraded to E range Super Swamper Radials. The six brakes on the trailer really help to stop such a heavy load.

That 36' i was pulling was heavy empty also. But that load wasnt as heavy as the one in this pic.

I weighed in a the scrap yard at 27,500lbs

In my case, my truck was plated for "farm" use and the trailer was clearly labeled "not for hire." Where I live, in Indiana, that means that DOT can't screw with you if you are close enough to home (unless you are doing something blatantly stupid). The Farm plates really let you get away with a lot here in IN.

That being said, I have my class A CDL anyways.

Same here Farm plate on truck and all trailers... I don't have a CDL and I still drive semi with a hopper bottom. As long as its for farm use and you have a CDL physical its all good.

My dad's International 4900 there is registered as an RV here in Mass, and is used 95% of the time to tow the 5th wheel. Used to have a 42' Teton Homes 5th wheel that weighed in around 18k, so combination probably pushing 40k and about 62' long, all on a D-class. We towed that same camper for about 2 years with a 92' F350 with a 7.3L banks turbo'd idi lol

Not too bad. I just juice up the air bags a little bit and be careful on how much tongue weight is on the truck. Now on a windy day, thats another story. I would consider a dually if I pulled it often.

I have that same Appalachian trailer, except I've put my "personal" add-ons to it and have a bunch more to do, I plan on cutting out and raising the height of the hitch, putting a second toolbox on, sandblasting and repainting (the paint is cheap on these trailers), new brakes and bearing. Pics of my trailer are on page 30 of this post. How do you like it yourself?

And by the way what permits did you have to get for a wide load? I might have to move a similar storage shed.

I actually got a pretty good deal on mine, paid 2700, it was 3 years old and had new tires on it. Like I said I had to add my touched to it to get it set up the way I wanted but it's a solid trailer, will haul anything fine, but as mentioned the paint is cheap, plus the wiring isn't watertight but it still works. And yes the prices went up since steel prices went up, I talked to one of the dealers who basically said the owner of the company basically employs cheap labor so that is the main reason the trailer are priced cheaper. Don't be afraid of that though, they are a put together well, not top notch, but fairly decent.

You can find all the pricing here:
