Plow for a lifted truck

Thought I'd share some pics of a plow that was "modded" to work on a lifted truck. The truck is an 05 F350 4x4 6.0l, mods are studs, EGR delete, SCT with Eric's tunes. The truck has 13" of lift & 38x15.50-18r Mud grapplers. The plow is a Western, my buddy wanted to keep his truck able to plow his driveway without lowering it. But at the same time he didn't want to lower his sheer point on the bracket. He wanted the sheer point up higher with the frame like stock. The extension is made out of 1/4" C channel welded on both sides. Then use all Grade 8 bolts to attach it to the plow itself & the cutter blade. Shoes were moved & it till folds over & works exactly like a stock Western plow. The pump was modded to lift the blade up & down smoothly.
The truck has about 1150lbs in the bed & plows no diffrent then it did stock. It's going to get a workout in the morning pushing around 12" of snow. Might be able to get some videos of it in action shortly. But so far so good in the limited use it has had so far.

That's an interesting way of coming up with a solution for the problem Garrett.

My gut feeling though is that without some reinforcing, that addition to the original blade is going to snap off right where it's bolted on at, or rip the bolts out. The area where the cutting edge originally bolted on is not strong enough IMO for the kind of leverage you'll have against it if he hits any curbs.

Whoever built it did a good job, but IMO you will need to reinforce it more.

How bad does it roll over once you get about 3 foot of snow in front of it? Did you tighten up the return springs anymore?

UNNNNNNNNNNNNpractical!!!!!!! Come on now. That is theeeee dumbest thing ever. Get a stock height truck. Thats gonna snap once any load hits it. Epic FAIL! LOL

I was thinking you will need to extend the "push" point down the extension it's the same height off the floor as the original was. I think you will tear it up if you do hit anything with it. and if you tightened up the trip springs it will make it worse. but otherwise looks like it will work fine.

I think it will work just fine. Just don't test it too hard on curbs or manhole covers. It will probably want to trip a lot easier now because of the increased leverage.

Definately an interesting solution to a problem.

Interesting but very ugly sorry to say with those stacks and the way the truck looks. But if it works best of luck to you but thats alot of stress on everything being a lifted truck.

For the record it does work just fine. The truck is only used around the back roads & driveways, so it doesn't see parking lots or the city. We got 10"+ of snow the other day & the truck/plow received a good work out. My buddy plowed about 2 miles of back roads to make it passable to the local cars. He had to adjust the shoes & the springs alittle but it worked great. It leveled off any high points in the road & got bashed hard into some frozen rail road ties. The plow just folded over like any Western should. No damage to the cutter bar or extension. If it was really weak & was going to break it would have on it's first big outing.
