Hard to say for sure. Are they chrome plated, anodized, or bare aluminum? It sounds like they're bare aluminum, but it would be wise to make sure. Metal polish can ruin anodized surfaces.

If they're bare metal, I'd start with some S100 Polishing Soap. You can pick it up at Harley dealers. Wonderful stuff. Follow that with a finer metal polish, something like Wenol or Autosol, Simichrome, Flitz, there are countless ones available. I like Wenol because, believe it or not, you can sometimes find it in stock at the kitchen store Williams Sonoma.

Prepare yourself for a lot of work though. I own a set of bare aluminum CCWs for my S2000, and I will never, EVER own a set of polished aluminum wheels again. Way too much work to keep after.

I plan to use this stuff Our Products - California Custom Products Inc. (http://www.californiacustom.com/ourproducts.html)
I work with a guy that swears by it and uses it on his semis and polishes his alluminum boxs with it and wheels. He has tried all the stuff I have mothers, meguiars, wizard, the blue stuff, and swears by this stuff. There testimonials are nice and I talked to one of the people with wheels in there and pics and they said its for real so we will see.

whatever you decide to use, make sure you put a good coat of synthetic wax on them after youre done to seal in all that hard work

Rouge is the best way to do it, I didnt realize you could get it at Lowes.

On particularly bad wheels or tanks we would acid wash them, then use a rotary buffer with an old wool pad with the Wicked products, then I would give it a good hand polish for the final application.
