I'm wondering if any of you guys have any pics of your OBS's with headache racks? I'm thinking of making one but, I'm just not decided on what style....

I know that coope3 makes them as kinda a side thing. You might see what his look like. Also might look at the Ranch Hand headache racks for a blue print.

I'm just looking for pics of OBSes with headache racks. I've looked at the Ranch Hands and all things in between, I'm just wondering what people are running....and how they look.

I am fixing to make one for a 95 model stroke when I get a chance. I have two others to make first. Just got home from the hospital with my little girl. It will be the same design as the ones for the superdutys.

Good to hear your back home coope. How's your daughter doing?

I have seen one that I like on a OBS truck that had a spare tire mount up top. Laying flat with the roof line.

Good to hear coope, the healing process does take time.......

I think if you ran a set of 5" miters on each side of your rear window & remounted your cargo lights, you could make a set of stacks look good on there!

I may try that. I have to make me another rack anyway. I just sold the one on my truck

Haha, I'm planning on getting some stacks...

I like the style of headache rack you fab up coope but, I'm not sure I want to pay bookoo's of money for one. (I'm cheap, I know. :P) I was thinking something like Dan's and the provisions for backup/brake lights but, not in the slanted position like yours. I'm thinking that if I had something like Dan's with the solid bar up top with the lights horizontal instead of slanted....I'm just not sure that the oval lights would look that great. What'da guys think?

I like the one on Dan's truck too. I have built a couple like that with no lights. It would look good built like that and the oval lights horizontal across the top. That would be similar to the one that ranch hand makes. I like the marker lights on Dan's truck too.

Thanks guys. Best of all it was free. when I got it, it was fugly, nast old red and gray paint flaking off of it. I borrowed a buddys mediablaster then hurculined it.
I wish I wouldve had someone weld some mesh over the back window area. Ive got ding marks where you can tell someones tried to break in the back window. Except for that I love it, its even got light tabs on the top for whenever i get lights and the ambers on the side give the truck a nice look. And the sides passing the top makes it so I can haul lumber and ladder cause I dont want a full ladder rack on my "personal" truck.

I will try to get some pics of mine up. My bro and I make our own and got our basic design from our uncle who has been building his own since the early 80's. We run EM (expanded metal) over the back window instead of the vertical or horizontal bars, seen to many shattered rear windows with them exposed. Anyway, we added some cargo lights to our racks, great for looking at stuff behind you almost any time, and great for getting people off your ass at night. Anyway, I'll get some pics up hopefully in the next day or so.

I would like to see those pics. The cargo light idea sounds pretty good, and the thought of expanded metal sounds pretty sweet as well.

Here are a couple of pics of my headache rack. The cargo lights can be adjusted up and down as necessary and are pointed across the bed just slightly for max light in the bed and behind the truck for backing up at night

Lights off:

Feel free to ask any questions about the rack. If you want one, let me know and I can probably find a way to make one for you (they are custom so you can have any little details you like)

That's badass....I guess I could give you some info and then I guess and estimate would be appropriate...or you could just tell me what I need, and I'll see if my dad wants to help me out...either way, I'm going to get one!

I'm pretty much looking at the same design as that but, where those lights mount, I'd like them centered. I'm planning on getting stacks so, I'm thinking that where the cut out is for the third brake light is, you could put them on each side.
As for the bed caps, I'll describe them the best I can. I'd like the rails to run the full length of the bed, and have sqaure tubing (same size as the headache rack's) about 2-3" above the plate coming off sqaure from the rack and run the full length of the bed where they will come down at an angle towards the end. Kinda like this (http://www.ranchhand.com/BedCaps.aspx)....and I guess it doesn't necessarily have to be bent...something like a triangle would work. I'm thinking that the angled part could be like 4-5" long. Just something not too short but not too long.
Lastly, painted black...or you could just leave it bone dry and I'll paint it, whatever floats your boat....

Also, where are you located at?

That kind of looks like the Pro-Tech rack. You can buy those in black as well. They look pretty good, but I like the EM better than the bar set up. My biggest problem with them, and you can see it in the picture, is that the rail caps that provide support for the rack are very short and therefore not all that strong. I have actually found branches with mine that bent the angle iron where it is cut to slide all of the way forward, because that is the weakest point in the whole set up. You can usually just warm it up with a torch and bend it back if it is really bad and you care that much. With the Pro-Tech style set up, it could actually point load at the end of the rail cap and mess up the bed, and personally I would rather mess up the rack (thats why it is there, protect the truck) than the bed which is much more expensive and difficult to fix.

I love flatbeds. I will be building one for myself once my lift is all complete and I can save up enough money for all of the materials.

Yep, it's a protech rack. You can get pretty much any insert you want, bars, vents, or the EM(kinda). If you have the $$$ you can get pro techs with full length bedrails IIRC, can anyone confirm that?

I know that you can get an extended version that works with their cross body tool box, but not full length. I think it is 6-12" longer.
