Bleeding the air before starting

My buddy has 84 IDI and every morning before he starts his truck he has to bleed the air out of the filter housing until fuel comes out.

Any body know what could be causing this or a way to stop this?

there are 2 posibilities for air intrusion on the 84.
#1 is at the fuel filter head/housing.
#2 is at the return line caps.
if the problem is at the filter i don't know how to fix it, because i have never had a truck with that filter assembly, only heard of the problem.
if the problem is at the return line caps, it is an easy fix at around $45 for a return line cap kit.

Forgot one other potential problem, injectors leaking down, I've been going through this with my truck and think i have it narrowed down to the leaking injectors, new ones are on the way

Where can he get the return line cap kit at? Just a normal part place?

Doakster...Is it an internal problem in the injectors... I'm assuming yours were just worn out and leaking.

Dipaco makes a real nice kit it has fuel line clamps O rings and new plastic caps.

Cap kit can be had here about half way down the page...Oregon Fuel Injection, your diesel fuel injection specialist, rebuilt turbochargers, injectors, pumps and diesel performance products. (http://www.o-f-i.com/index.php?pid=16#INJECTORS_6.9L,_7.3L_IDI)

And as far as my injectors, i have all clear return lines installed right now, I can watch the fuel slowly drain itself back toward the injectors. I'm 99% sure I have and injector leaking down, they just don't hold anymore.

I have a new set of Delphi and return line/cap kit coming for $235 shipped:eek:
