I was reading articles all over the internet and was checking out my dad's boost guage. When the guage says 42 lbs of boost does that mean the full boost from the large fixed geometry turbo or it is the combine boost from both turbos (for an example 12lbs from the small turbo and 30lbs from the large turbo making 42lbs)

you just picked a bad weekend to post, noone's around!!! the manifold boost pressure is the total over all boost, after the 2nd turbo as it enters the motor.

The boost being read by the gauge is full manifold boost pressure. There can be no 30+12 scenario like you stated since max boost pressure comes out of the second turbo.

ya meed tp buy a book called turbochargers, or maximum boost, you can learn more then you everr want to know

so the new 6.4L powerstroke needs 42lbs of boost to make 350hp when the cummins just needs 24.5lbs and the duramax needs 20lbs. why?

WEll because its not a Duramaxypad or cummins engine.
Inlines vs V8.
And 6.6 vs 6.4?
And i read somewhere Depending on load it will hit 42 pounds of boost.

well at 37lbs of boost my truck made 540/1100 ... i think you need some education in how power is made.

so because an inline needs less boost to make equal horsepower and if the motor is bored bigger it needs less boost? hmmmm I wonder how much boost a 6.7L powerstroke will make?

if you understood boost and cfm you wouldnt be having this conversation. when you compress 2 stages, you move more CFM of air in the same amount of boost. you let me know when a cummins or dmax make almost 600hp on 37psi. even better, on just a tuner.

So is the low pressure turbo the "smaller turbo" and the HP turbo larger? If so thats kinda backwards as to how a convential twin setup is done. Your LP turbo would be directly connected to the exhaust and feeding the HP turbo. Witht he 6.4 Its kinda reversed.
