6.0 IC INSTALL ? Anybody else ahve this trouble?

I installed my IC finally this weekend. I had already mounted the 6.0 IC last year so I figured easy job ,right? The kit I got was a banks IC kit from the group buy. The first thing I noticed was that the pipes were too long. My IC was mounted as close to the radiator support as possible. I had too move it away quite a bit. I didn't measure it but I would guess around 3 inches. What I wanna know is did anyone else using the banks kit have to move the IC forward. As it sits I can't reinstall my winch carrier or brushguard. I am a wrench thrower so I'm pretty ticked off still. Gonna go look for wrenches in the neigbors yard . I'll check back tomorrow.

I have my IC mounted really close to the radiator and higher than most guys put it. I bought a set of pipes off of eBay and found out something similar to you. I was able to make them fit with hump boots.

I would just cut the pipes to fit, it sucks I know, but alot easier than redoing the whole front end of your truck to make a pair of pipes fit.

If you cut the pipe be sure and weld a bead on the end so the pipe does not come off.

Well cutting the pipes did cross my mind but I was hoping I wouldn't have too. Alot of money to just end up chopping pipes,oh well its not like I haven't chopped up the rest of the truck. RTxcoon thanks for the link. Will probably cut them this weekend. Thanks for the replies.

sorry about just dropping the link bomb in there with no explanation
but I was still at work and something came up....
I mounted my IC about as high as you possibly can
I had to clear my rsk cross tube (sky kit) so its up there pretty high
I have heard sky has since fixed that issue to allow intercooler
install without mounting it so high...however, I like mine just
fine where its at, everything is tucked up pretty good
and protected and still flows pretty well I think...

Rusty and i both did the 6 liter cooler about the same time, I mounted mine as high as i could get it just to put the most of the cooler as I could in the grill area:

The problem with the banks tubes is that they are made to fit with the obs banks cooler which is no where near as tall and mounts way lower on top of the frame and so the connection points of the pipes and the cooler is lower in the truck. Most guys that have bought the Banks tube kits are going to have to cut and weld the pipes when using the 7.3 and especially the 6.0 liter cooler......hate to say it but that sucks....

Cutting the pipes isnt always true i did my 7.3 cooler with the banks kit and didnt cut the pipes and it sits right agianst the core support even after i flattened it with a hammer to make it sit flush. The only thing i didn like is hoe low in the frame it sat.

Matt, Like Hartdiesel said you may NOT have to cut the pipes to do the install. RTXCOON had to because of the RSK suspension system forced him to raise the 6.0 cooler up high. I chose to mount mine high due to lower valence I run under the bumper and with mine being a two wheel drive truck I could only lower the front sway bar a few inches without effecting its effeciency . I did my custom piping after the cooler install.

This is the old pipe system I did in 2006:

I highly suggest that when you start the install go ahead and fit the pipes to the motor first, see how they align with the cooler before you mount the cooler and you might can tweak the cooler mounting to acomodate the pipes with doing any cutting....

I did mine exactly like rtxcoon's. I had the intercooler mounted for months before I finished the install. After I cut and welded the pipes I ground down the welds and had them powdercoated for bling! Can't find the picture though.

Well I cut the pipes this weekend. Cut 5 inches off the passenger side.Cut 3 1/4 inches of the drivers side and also turned the top piece in towards the engine a 1/4 inch then tacked them. The intercooler is back in its original position which is a 1/4 inch below the hood latch assembly.Mine had to be high because of my winch carrier. I don't see how anyone could install a 6.0 cooler without having to cut the banks pipes. I tried and did install it temporarily for a week but it sat very far from the radiator support and was way low. I was not comfortable with it at all.Well anyway its done and I haven't driven it to see if it has any leaks.I did notice last week that my water temp stays low all the time now. Before it would climb up almost halfway doing 70. I do have 410's with a 5 speed so the RPM's are up there, around 2500 or so. Also I can still peg the pyro. I'll give it hell this week and see how she does. I didn't take any pics but the pics of the original install are in my pics in my sig.Well I see there not there so heres a link.
