I just picked up a 96 E350 and it needs a new trans. I need to know which years will be a direct bolt in replacement. I'm trying to find a cheap used trans until I can rebuild the one that's in it.

It has to be an E4OD because the 4R100 has different shift strategy and you would have to reflash the PCM for it to work properly . As far as the specific years go I think you would have to ask Ford to see when the 4R100 was introduced. Also on our trucks thre is no such thing as a cheap transmission. Good Luck

S/Ds use inputshaft and output shaft speed thats the 2 sensors that dont matter on an OBS !

Oh you can use any trans from 96 thru 2003 as long as its a 4r100.

Thanks for the help. I know there aren't any cheap trans. I've had to rebuild one in my truck and in my brother's. I'm basically looking for one that was pulled out and I can slap in just to get it rolling. I can't afford to rebuild one at this time. I don't want to spend more than a couple hundred on one that could possibly need rebuilt in a month or two.

Thanks for the info. That's what I was wanting to hear. That should help me find one I can use. Thanks.

Silver-I have a good 4r100 trans out of my 03 e350. I bought the van with 130k, and pulled it at 160k. I have no idea if it is original or not, but it worked great. About 5 hours one way for you.

What are you wanting for it? The drive is nothing I've done a couple of jobs in Rockford and possibly have one coming up in Joliet.

I'll have to look around here first. Right now just picking up the van has taken my extra cash for awhile. Unless you want a muzzle loader with scope that I've never shot? LOL

Is the 4r100 a stronger tranny?
Thanks, Dann
