It is looking like I need to put a new dip stick tube and I was wondering if you needed to take the oil pan off or if you can change it without removing the pan?

The problem with mine is when you try to put the dipstick back in once you get it about 6 inches from being in you can barely get it the rest of the way.

Not happy to share this but I did have a customer request that we cut the pan 3 ways fold over the pan side reach in pull out fallen parts and replace. Then weld pan and smear JB weld over the welded area. Needless to say I was not happy having to do this but the customer is allways right. I still do not beleive I was forced to do this but hey it worked but it just kinda comes under the hammer mech. title.

It has been like that since I got the truck, just getting sick of it. The oil pan was new when I bought it I am assuming they did it when they changed it. I can not see where it is bent, just wondering how hard it is to change it.

Just replace your dip stick tube that should cure your hard insertion problem. :D

As long as the peice that the tube has to go into has not fallen into the pan you are good to go, be sure and replace the o ring that goes on the end of the tube (part that goes into the pan nut) bolt it to the Valve cover stud you should be good to go.

You'd better hope the little nut in the pan is okay because there's no such thing as "pulling the pan" on a powerstroke, lol.

You can pull the engine and then pull the pan but you can't just pull the pan, lol. Well not unless a leaky POS doesn't bother you.

Like they said, swapping out the tube is not bad at all. It has one tab that bolts down to the front-most bolt on the passenger's side valvcover and other than that, it just pulls right out of the bulkhead in the pan. Put a new o-ring on the new tube, slip it back in there and put the nut back on it.

The nut/bolts for the valvecover are 13mm. Might save you a trip to the toolbox.

:D
