I heard about this too, this is what Obama will do.
since the u.s. doesn't negotiate for hostage release, he will offer them a
"Stimulus Package" it'll consist of billions of tax payers dollars given to the pirates "CEO", so they can all get bonuses.

I doubt it. I don't think the crew complement on a destroyer is large enough to include a person(s) of such limited use on a smaller combat vessel.
Snipers are probably on their way already. I'm sure they'd be able to "borrow" a few from forces currently deployed in Iraq or Afganistan and get them there very quickly.
BTW, My best man's daughter is assigned to the U.S.S. Bainbridge.

I vote for a SWAT type assault at night with a SEAL team. Daze them with some flash bang grenades. Grab the hostage and leave the pirates adrift in the lifeboat.
And then run the f***ers over with a Nimitz class aircraft carrier.

First rule, never ever give in to ransom. As bad as it sounds, you must consider the hostage already dead, if you get him back alive, it is a bonus.
Try the sniper thing. If it fails. Blow the lifeboat out of the water. Then go after their bosses and destroy them also.
Anybody remember how quiet Khadafi got after Ronny Ray Gun showed him what happens when you piss of the big boys.

The navy uses VBSS teams for this type of thing. (visit, board, search, and seizure) they are usually well-armed and well-trained.
