Stroker85 10-31-2007, 12:51 AM I am down at school right now but a guy in my class has a 96 somethin or other, he has a fuel leak. It is leakin from somewhere around the fuel bowl i got that far then i told him i would ask on here. So guys give it your best shot i know u can.
Thanks Rusty
racehauler 10-31-2007, 03:32 AM The most common cause for leaks in that area are the rubber hoses that connect the fuel pump and fuel bowl. They get very hot and crack over time. There are a lot of other possibilities but I would start there.
Stroker85 10-31-2007, 04:22 AM Alright i will take a look there, thanks
Big_Dan97 11-02-2007, 01:27 AM Also the little dealy you turn to empty the fuel out da bowl as two orings inside itself thatll go bad. Not to sound like a jerk but make sure the filter lid is tight, sometimes in the cold (dunno where u are), the seal will shrink a little and the lid becomes loose.

Racer X 11-02-2007, 02:00 AM Check the water in fuel sensor. Sometimes the internal seal leaks right at the connector. Since you don't own the truck, look at all the fuel bowl electrical connectors. See if you can isolate the leak to the bowl (filter housing) or not. The hoses to the pump should have a heat shield over them you pull off.

Tom S 11-02-2007, 02:25 AM One other possibility is that the bowl has rotted out in the bottom.

Big_Dan97 11-02-2007, 03:49 AM yep, or i just thought of the fuel heater too, might shorted out and burned a hole in in the canister, but that was a pretty nasty leak, kind of a spray not a drip, hope that helps.
Stroker85 11-02-2007, 11:40 PM I have narrowed it down to the fuel bowl area not sure if it is on of lines going in or not but i won't be able to see it again until monday. I do know that is not the drain lever because the drain hose is still in tact and the fuel is coming out through the inspection plate.
Thanks Rusty
Madvan 11-08-2007, 05:10 PM Check the weep hole in the pump!
I just lost another pump do to the leak!
Iam not getting much life out of a pump.
Might have something to do with ULSD.
My tanks and filters checkout fine.
Bill
Stroker444 11-15-2007, 09:43 PM Diddo on the pump! Just put a pump on my 96 because it filled the intake valley with fuel. It would leak down the back and drip off the bell housing.
I did the lines too while I was there.
hotwheels 11-20-2007, 04:27 AM Check the gasket on the bowl lid. If it has a square cut gasket it's the wrong one and will leak. Wix filters that NAPA sells have a square cut gasket and I'm not sure who all else has them as well. It should be a triangular shaped gasket with the wide part down to the bolw and the pointed part pointing up toward the lid.

i think thats backwards, its been a year since i did mine, its due, flat should go against the cap, bevel down at the bowl.
usld makes the orings shrink like 10 or 20%,fuel leak is common on the water drain.my wix has beveld gasket,i have put it on upside down=leaks big time
ooopp's my bad,i'm in the wrong section,i have a 1999.5,but if the bowl is the same, then i think it is how i discribed.
clayc_989 12-06-2007, 05:26 AM I buy my filters at Napa and they have the square gasket...and I'm pretty sure it's not leaking. I have a fuel leak but, it's gotten progressively worse over the year so I'm going to assume that it's not the gasket....but, then again, I could be wrong...though I've never seen fuel leak out of the bowl with that gasket...

check the water drain, its a common place to leak.orings shrink from the ulsd fuel.use viton orings.get a bag of 50 for 5 bucks on ebay.
clayc_989 12-06-2007, 05:36 AM Yeah, I'm going to take the whole thing apart this weekend...and see what I can come up with. If it's the pump, I'll let it stay until funds permit me to just do the electric fuel...if it's hoses or rings, I'll be sure to promptly replace them.
Thanks for the advice about the viton rings, I haven't heard that yet.
