Robts 03-08-2009, 01:32 AM Allright...Tonight I went through the pcs harness.
I removed everything expect the following. I have some questions about all of them
1.Oil pressure, Can I use an autometer sending unit and wire it in.Its alot smaller
2.Oil temp. Do I need to use the ford factory one. I have a autometer. Just dont want a sensor light to go on
3.Water temp. Can I use a autometer sensor and wire it in to the ford harness
4.Crank sensor..I think its on the driver side. I need this for the tach or at least the wires.
5.Alternator wire I think I need this. One 8 gauge goes to the battery. One 12 gauge also goes to the battery but the last one goes to the harness. If I use the dodge alternator is it the same. I notice the dodge harness has its own plug. Which plug do I use
intake air temp
6.air conditionor (2) plugs. One plug goes to the ford air conditioner and the other is for low pressure. The dodge harness also has plugs for this. How do I tie them all in
7. Intake temp....DO i really need this
8. Fan...Do I use the wires for the dodge harness or tie in the ford harness.
I removed all the wires for the glow plug module, FICM,VGR, IPR, Hpop in the rear of the motor, all glow plug wires, cam sensor, throttle body, EGR, backpressure sensor, and Im sure Im forgetting stuff I cut
I basically using the second harness on the pcm for the tach and gauges correct
I thought this is good stuff to post
Super_Hauler 03-08-2009, 01:39 AM Pull that cummins out and put the p-stroke back in...that will fix all your problems.:D
Robts 03-08-2009, 01:53 AM The main problem to start with was a reliable 700+ hp diesel....Thats why the powerstroke came out...
Thanks for the insite and insperation

I don't think you'll be able to use the Autometer sending units through the Ford wires for your factory gauges. Resistance would most likely be completely different. You'll want to find a spot on your engine screw the factory Ford sending units in and run them through the Ford wiring.
You'll most likely need at least the CPS wire for the tach box to work.
For Alternator, I'm not sure how the 6.0 trucks (I believe you had a 6.0?) were set up, but I got rid of all the Ford stuff and made all my own wires. One from the alternator to the batteries and another from the alternator to the chassis power supply.
A/C - that's a fun one if you want the Cummins ECM to control the fan lockup. On mine, I had another port put into the lines I had made, so I could put the Cummins sensor in there. The way it's setup now, Ford has control over the AC clutch (had to cut the Ford plug off and solder the Cummins one in it's place) and Cummins has control over fan lockup.
Intake temp - not sure which one your talking about. Ford...no, get rid of it. Cummins...absolutely, you've got to have it.
Fan - you'll need to get a plug for the fan and wire it into the Cummins harness. If your engine is an 05+, I believe there's a plug on the harness for it, but don't quote me on that. If it's an 03-04, you'll have to wire it in, as the fan plug on the Dodge trucks is on the chassis harness rather than the engine harness, this I know for sure.
Robts 03-08-2009, 06:05 PM 1.The fan has a plug and is wired in the cummins harness..So Im thinking Im good...neeed someone to validate that
2.The AC might not be that tricky. Im going to get a price for new lines and compare it to the Autoworld bracket....If the bracket is cheaper...than its getting ordered tomorrow.
3.What about the oil temp....If I dont hook it up will the sensor go on?
4.Air intake....I guess its gone. Didnt think I needed it
5.ALternator...
-For 6oh has a 8 gauges that goes to the battery..It has a 12 gauge that also goes to the battery. Then there is another wire that goes to the ford PCM harness.
-Dodge..It has a 8 gauges that goes to the battery..It has a (2) 12 gauge wires I think do the same. I need to find out. if its the same then its getting wired into the ford harness
As for the water temp, oil temp and oil pressure....Im going to post this in the technical section on a few sites for resistance rating.
No matter how pain ful this may seem....Id rather do this than have someone else doing it. When its done I can look back at all the pain or stress it may cause and just smile.....
hardint 03-08-2009, 09:11 PM Rob,I pulled the oil pressure and water temp sensors from the 6.0 they are a bastard thread metric I guess, the oil pressure on ford is a 6psi to ground the gauge is basically and oil light. I'm going to use a standard switch with 1/4 or 1/8 pipe thread and put it at the oil filter .We will need an adapter for the water temp,I'll take it to work and see what I can find. The alternator goes straight to the + battery and The battery Temp from Dodge will have to be added I think. The AC lines and clearance from intercooler piping and filter is some treat, still trying to peace something together.Good luck, got to go vote
hardint 03-09-2009, 03:57 AM Jt Harvey, how about pictures of ac pluming on your truck ?
jtharvey 03-09-2009, 03:57 AM Oil temp - not sure on the 6.0. The oil light on the 7.3 was only for pressure, so no worries about the temp sensor being gone. I believe that light is also for high temp, but takes the reading from water temp.
Alternator - based from your description, I would run large wires to the battery and one 12ga wire to the PCM harness. Is that PCM wire where the chassis gets its power? The 7.3 had a smaller wire running from the battery to the hot side of the starter relay for chassis power, and none directly to the PCM from the battery.
hardint - I don't have the Dodge battery temp hooked up at all and have had no problems with it. I don't think it's necessary at all.
jtharvey 03-09-2009, 04:04 AM Jt Harvey, how about pictures of ac pluming on your truck ?I don't have any pics of the lines before they went on, and honestly, just looking at it in the engine bay, they look completely stock.
What I did though was take the Ford and Cummins AC lines both to the AC shop, and left the truck with them for the day. They took the sections of each that are being used to make the lines, Ford ends for the accumulator and condenser, Cummins manifold for the AC compressor. They kept the port on the line that houses the Ford pressure sensor and added another port to that line house the Cummins pressure/temp sensor. I've got both sensors in place now, but the Cummins one is strictly to let the ECM control the variable fan lockup for when the AC is running.
To make the water temps work on a 6.0 I use a brass 3/8 pipe plug and drill it and tap it 12mm, cant remeber the pitch off hand. Then take a larger drill bit and chamfer the inlet of the ol for teh oring o seat on and theres the adapter.
