My truck has had a miss at idle after oil temp is above 185 degrees F. I don't notice the problem when truck is cold. I replaced my CPS and no improvement. After reading post about checking the ICP for oil in the plug in, I checked and mine had a small amount of oil in it. I cleaned it out with electrical contact cleaner and plugged it back up but problem still existed. I then unplugged the ICP while truck was running and the idle smoothed out. Is my ICP bad or does unplugging it just throw the ECM in a closed loop mode or something like that? How does the ICP work? I hate to spend $165 if it isn't bad and another problem exist.

You accidently posted in the wrong section (this is the 6.4L technical section, not the 7.3L).

Anyway, you already diagnosed the problem. If the idle smooths out and the truck runs better with the ICP sensor unplugged, then the sensor itself is the problem. When the PCM detects the sensor is not connected, it automatically loads a default ICP table that "guesses" the oil pressure, rather than reading it from the head. So if the PCM's guesses are better than what the sensor is doing, replace the sensor with a new one.

Check Ebay for a new sensor instead of getting it at the dealership. Sometimes you can find a great deal.

Also note that the new ICP sensor looks different than the original one. Ford updated the sensor a few years back.
