Maximizing the Automatic

For those of us that got an auto, Has anyone done mods that've increase mileage?
I plan on doing a full performance build on my auto, because i want mo powa!
It would make sense to me that with a performance tranny, more of the power goes to the ground = better mileage...
Has anyone had this experience?
How about computer programming? has anyone ever set their truck to unlock the TC at higher rpms so it can coast? say, under 2000 rpms, it unlocks... over 2000 it locks instead of 1500ish being the line...
throw some ideas out there... Those of us with the slushboxes have an inherent disadvantage, but that doesnt mean we have to accept it.

I'm no help. I don't even think about slushboxes anymore.

Ya, it really is a b*tch when you're used to a manual.
fairly regularly, i end up talking to my truck telling it how to shift.
It never listens.

Well, here's a question that I don't know.

Does a PSD ECM have a deceleration fuel cut off? If the TC is locked and you're at zero on the TPS, it can use no fuel. No fuel is still better than fuel at idle.

I have the Ford Transmission Cure on my Excursion. I took it off my E350 when it went down the road. There's something in the Ford ECM that makes the transmission make it's Drive to Over Drive shift slide rather than just get it done. There have been some that link that problem to the falure of E4OD and 4R100 transmissions. I have very solid shifts. Power is transmitted more immediately rather than in a slide. Yeah, not very technical, but I suppose it's a start to a discussion.

The strategies I use do shut off the injectors on coast. Keeping the converter locked is good because as soon as you get back on the gas it doesn't have to bring the rpms back up then re-lock.

Yes, there is a deceleration fuel cutoff.
Did you notice a difference with the cure? makes sense that it would help.

Thanks for the confirmation on the DFCO.

I can't say that I notice anything dramatic with The Cure. I do like the way it operates though. My Excursion is just really new to me, so I'm making mods to it like I have on the E350. The Cure seemed to be a very good thing on that it returned some fuel mileage to it that seemed to be lost from some problems over time and age.

I think I wished that my TC locked up at 26MPH and would remain generally locked up all the way down to that too. That's not the case.

ya, thinking about it, it may be better to take advantage of dfco.
the way i know it does cut off is that when coasting downhill with the tc locked, the egt's will go down below 200, and it idles at 400

You will want the TC to lock at a higher speed than it unlocks. This keeps it from hunting. 2-5mph should be sufficient; depending on gearing, engine modifications, and driving style.

Whats the cure? Never heard of it before.

To the OP: I gained 3mpg after having my tranny done. Really can't say if it's an improvement due to a buiilt tranny, or if the stock one was just slipping that bad.

It's a computer unit that controls TC lockup, and minimizes unlocked time inbetween gears. Supposed to be nice.
