Oil filter relocation - anyone do it? Would it help?

Looking at everything today, visualizing the IC tubes and air intake/filter in place & noticing the engine crossmember below the filter, I'm imagining that changing the oil filter is not going to be the easiest thing to get at and would require removal of the intake and passenger side IC pipe. I know some of the Dodge guys compain about the difficulty of getting to the filter, and they've got more room on the passenger side than we do.

So I'm thinking an oil filter relocation would be pretty handy here. I'm thinking on the frame, right behind the front bumper would be a safe and convenient place for it.

Have any of you guys relocated your oil filters or is not really a problem to get the filter in and out? If you did it, what kits did you use? Pac Brake makes a pretty slick looking kit that PDR carries: http://www.pdrdiesel.com/products/Engine_Oil_Filter_Relocation_Kit_2003_07_Dodge_### mins-1062-148.html & http://www.pacbrake.com/PDF/L5637.PDF

I used the Amsoil dual bypass kit and mounted the filter head on the passenger side framerail. Very nice kit for way less than anyone elses....and it has a bypass filter built in.

Ordered straight from Amsoil's site.

I assume Amsoil fixed the problems they were having with their bypass systems actually causing increased wear metals on a UAO?

Edit: I'm not a personal fan of Amsoil at all, never have been, and have a hard time supporting that company at all. Personal opinion. May have a good bypass kit, but you couldn't give it to me to use.

How do you like the quality of the Pacbrake kit? Looks nice from the pics, but there's not much to go on there.

The PermaCool is the other one I was looking at. It is definately cheaper than the Pacbrake one, but I wasn't sure of the quality. The parts don't appear to be as rhobust as the Pacbrake kit, and I also couldn't tell if the kit specifically for the Dodges will let you use the standard filter or if you have to use a universal filter.

Anyway, I ordered the PacBrake kit from PDR. Now I just have to find a safe and secure mounting location for it.

that looks like the cheap old transdapt kit, i like the one from pac anodized billet, made for the cummins and not universal.the pac kit is $169 but you get what you pay for

I suspected I would. :D I've been kicking around different ideas for placement and can't decide on a good place for it. I would like it somewhere where it's safe from possible road debris damage, which is what has me worried on the outside frame rail. I'm wondering if there's enough room next to the starter to mount it on the inner frame rail, right behind the engine crossmember?

After reading the first page, i say get the pacbrake kit just because it looks cooler, it has more eye appeal, to go along with all the other eye appeal stuff youve added under the hood. Im liking it :D

Kris, you should have read the first post on page 2. ;) I ordered the Pac Brake kit, just waiting for it to get here. Been constant rain for the last two days anyway, so I couldn't put it on even if it were here.

You still up at 5:00 or they wake you up that early?
