Marty 07-30-2008, 07:25 PM I'm blocking and clamping the rear. I have 285 BFG's Load range D (65 psi tire) and you all know my supporting mods. I'll be pulling in the modified class (the higher one at the buck) and I was wondering since I'm hearing conflicting information about what to run.
There will be about 1" of suspension travel in the rear and should be almost no axle wrap because the springs will be clamped solid. I ran 25 psi in the rear last time and 30 psi up front. Little hop at the beginning but not too bad and it wasn't tire related.
Some say pump up the PSI in the rear to the max, and others say lower it to 20 psi. wtf??? I always thought you'd lower it... just need some reinforcement on this.
Also, I have two new DP Tuner Pulling programs... wonder if I should just put it in D and drive instead of limiting it to 2nd gear.
Also, that 4wd switch under the truck... it never works unless I hold it in tight and have someone flip the switch over for me in the cab. Then it works great, but it sucks because it's not ESOF. :(
mattymx 07-30-2008, 08:15 PM Are the BFG tires muds or AT's? I always thought if you had an aggressive tread like a mud, you would go higher pressure and if you have a less aggressive tread, you would go lower pressure.
powerstrokenstang 07-30-2008, 08:38 PM i go max in rear and about 20 - 25 psi less in front. i got 35" buckshots.
Marty 07-30-2008, 08:59 PM Mine are BFG A/T's and it's a tight track... usually very hard.
House 07-30-2008, 09:30 PM 45-50 rear 25 front here bfg ats
mech2161 07-30-2008, 10:34 PM :whs:
Craneman 07-30-2008, 10:47 PM Got 305 70 16 BFG ATs on rear. Run 50 all the time. Run same size Dick Cepek Crushers on front. Depending on track conditions run 15 to 25. You always want more pressure in the rear cause that is where all your weight is. You want them to spin not bite.
TANK'S 250 07-30-2008, 10:53 PM Even though I don't pull,...I like learning.'
Why wouldn't you want the rear tires to bite?....I thought less spinning and more traction would help propel you down the track quicker, resulting in a longer pull.
mech2161 07-30-2008, 10:57 PM Too much traction in the rear will cause it to hop.
Marty 07-30-2008, 11:02 PM and break chit
Gotcha... I'm going to run 50 rear, 25 front.
TANK'S 250 07-30-2008, 11:04 PM ok...I didn't know that.
it seems to me the key would be to find a way to stop the hop,...without sacrificing traction.
mech2161 07-30-2008, 11:05 PM There is a way. More power and more wheel speed.
Powersmoker 07-30-2008, 11:38 PM i personally like 38 psi in the back and 28 psi up front. I start in 2nd gear. I sorta spool the truck up just like when im at the dragstrip. I spool it up til i cant hold the brakes........then imediately shift to drive with od off. I also lock the convertor at this time too. Then at the end the truck will down shift by itself and dont forget to unlock the convertor.

Marty 07-30-2008, 11:40 PM I don't have a manaul t/c lock up... but I've got sled pullin tunes and figured I'd just tap the brakes at the end to keep from stalling again  LOL
House 07-31-2008, 12:03 AM its all about wheel speed out here now days
mech2161 07-31-2008, 12:04 AM That's for sure. It's a lot different than when we started Joe.
OldschoolPSD 07-31-2008, 12:20 AM I run 55 in the back and 20 in the front with my all terrains... I guess your talking about the Buck this weekend? I might be up there.
Marty 07-31-2008, 12:36 AM That's for sure. It's a lot different than when we started Joe.
Ummm, more about this please :D

Yup, the buck. Hope you're there and if so, don't be a stranger.
OldschoolPSD 07-31-2008, 12:52 AM I got to talk my lady friend into it...
powerstrokenstang 07-31-2008, 01:08 AM is it sat? what time?

If your not at 550 in a street class around here you'll never make the top 5.
JHill 07-31-2008, 03:38 AM If your not at 550 in a street class around here you'll never make the top 5.
 we must be a touch slow out west ,or ya'll have better driver's.
at last weekends pulls, there were a few trucks with a wide spread like
(150hp or more) in terms of HP, and the underpowered truck won or came close, setup and driver make's some difference. wish it was bigger out here
mostly Country Modified Gaser's
60psi rear/50front- on hard track's -seems to work ok with my tires in sig, but i need more power-Jody hurry back
mech2161 07-31-2008, 01:48 PM Last weekend a 6k rpm 12V Dodge took first another Dodge CR in second I took third and a DMax with an Aurora 5K took fourth in Hot Street. The Pro Street class has twins. They do try to run a stock turbo class if they have enough trucks to make a class.
HotRodTractor 07-31-2008, 05:13 PM Yep the top trucks in the 2.6 turbo class around here are all 525+ HP Mostly Dmaxes are dominating with a few Cummins here and there. Everyone has a turned up truck from my area. 450 - 500 HP is the norm. for a DD, several go well beyond that.
Jason
Marty 08-03-2008, 06:06 AM Well I did 50 rear, 25 front, blocked/clamped rear - no real hop... on a real slick track (Just rained) I still managed 293 feet on some worn AT's and was bumped off the bubble by a Dmax. The heat ended up with all Dmax's in the top 3, then me, then dmax's then cummins and there were no other 7.3's even remotely close the rest of the night. I think the closest 7.3 pulled like 20 feet shorter then me.
mech2161 08-03-2008, 06:10 AM Where was this at?
powerstrokenstang 08-03-2008, 02:31 PM man i should have made the trip up. the buck
mech2161 08-03-2008, 04:02 PM I thought that was where it was. I thought hard about going but the clutch would never take another hook.
Marty 08-03-2008, 05:04 PM Kevin, if you ever get the chance, please do! There are really no great running 7.3's up there... Brakins is about the best performing one and he seems to always have a problem IE: won't go into 4wd, won't shift etc...
I should have my video's up soon... Aaron (abianc99) video'd for me.
My first pull I broke the hitch (I was the test puller)... it was a homemade hitch and the square stock I used broke right at the reciever so none of my welds broke, just the peice I actually bought and didnt' fabricate. I'm guessing it was from heat transfer and it weakened it, but IDK. Luckily I was able to drop 6 positions and I had my spare hitch with me.
The DP Tuner pulling tune did great, but the upshift into 3rd was late. When it finally shifted into 3rd it fell under the turbo a little and I lost some momentum but was able to get it right back up to 3200 rpms, spool quick and still pull it to 293 on a very slick track with my worn AT's. The dmax that won the heat was running 35" boggers.
mech2161 08-03-2008, 05:11 PM I've been wanting to pull there. Never fails there is either another pull closer or I'm having issues. I can't get past 20 hooks and a clutch. It's getting ridiculous. A four hour trip is a little far if it's not 100%.

If you don't mind me asking....what clutch do you run?
mech2161 08-03-2008, 06:11 PM It's a South Bend. While I've not had a long service life out of the clutch the customer service has been great. It's just getting frustrating. Seems like every year when the season peaks I start having problems.
TANK'S 250 08-03-2008, 06:14 PM I have a Southbend too...I was just wondering.

Kevin, if you're serious about it the next pull is Sept 6th. Registration is over at 5:30 or 6 so if you leave by noon you're good. Do you tow your truck in, or do you drive???
Also, unless your turbo plainly says GARRETT and looks stock you'll be in the modified class. So plan on a hook time of around 9 pm or later.
OldschoolPSD 08-03-2008, 08:33 PM I heard the track was real muddy up there. I was gonna go but a sweet young thing kept me busy all evening.
Marty 08-03-2008, 09:43 PM I heard the track was real muddy up there. I was gonna go but a sweet young thing kept me busy all evening.
It was a sloppy mess for the first heat. By the 2nd heat, things were back to being tight and 300+ foot pulls were move common.
mech2161 08-03-2008, 10:20 PM LOL there's nothing Garrett left. I take it the Modified class allows twins?
