If the truck is a chassis cab and has the aft axle steel fuel tank it is a fairly common problem. the liner inside the tank delaminates from the tank and cloggs fuel filter on the rail and pickup if enough of it is coming off. you will see grey flakes on your rail mounted fuel filter and in the filter cap. There are some places that can clean and recoat the inside of the tank but they can be hard to find depending on your area.

It was said to relate back to Biodiesel usage (or bad fuel).

Thanks. I was looking to buy a plastic tank off of a 2004. Sounds like its just a metal tank problem

That was Fords excuse to get out of Warranty work
Most owners that had the issue swore up and down they just used pump grade diesel

could be - both sides seem to bend the facts a little towards their favor .........

I do know that bio can cause the problem. Who knows how many people had steel tanks without any issues (maybe none for all I know).

Pump diesel contains 5%+ biodiesel. Atleast in nj it does. Says it right on the pump.

Ford's 6.0L design was intended to allow up to 5% bio (not sure how they figured that number). The manual states to go no higher than that. I know many people do.
