70+ mph HUMMMMMMMM

So I just bought this 04 f250 6.0 xlt with 95k on it.... truck runs perfect, trans is smooth, no complaints...

So first time i take it on the highway, I get up to about 70mph and when i accelerate, i was hearing a loud HUMM. only when my foot was on the gas pedal would i hear it. At first i thought it was a wheel bearing or ball joint but i got up to 75-80 and let off the gas an NOTHING. no noise, just rolling smoothly..

what would cause this HUMM only at this speed and only when im on the throttle?

the truck does have a slight very small rust hole in the exhaust at one of the clamps before the cat and muffler... could it be that?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Check to see if your dumpin black smoke. If so could be your turbo is delaying or injectors timing is off. Same thing happened to my dads 6.0. He's getting a new turbo Tuesday. Same exact humming noice.

Could be the rearend (axle). Generally they get louder the faster you go an only "whine" when your on the throttle

Do you have an aftermarket exhaust?

Do you have an aftermarket exhaust?

when i originally made the post, NO. I just put on a MBRP 4" st8 pipe. You still hear the noise a little bit.. I guess I will have to keep driving until it gets louder and I can figure it out.

check your rearend. Mine was doing the same thing and it turned out the rearend was making that noise bearing were going out

I had my driveshaft, carrier bearing and pinion seal replaced under warranty last year maybe 4-5k miles ago. My truck just started this "hummmmm" a week or so ago so I asked my friend who is a diesel tech at another dealership, he one I should have brought my truck too, he said without seeing it that maybe the tech tightened the nut at the pinion to tight and now the bearing is shot. I'll keep you updated when I get it fixed. I don't know if my issues help or not but like said by 03F250 6.0 check your bearing.

My 6.0 was making a goofy noise at certain highway speeds and vanes were sticking. Got the turbo cleaned and problem gone. My buddy is a ford mechanic and hooked it up to his computer and confirmed it was the vanes and over boosting
