power plant questions

I know the 7.3L is the preferred power plant of choice for most, but could somebody sneak by with a 6.0? The 7.3 is getting harder to find, and sometimes the 6.0 can be cheaper, but the question is, would this be a time to cut corners?

You may need a little back round information, I want to run in 2.6/hot street, and eventually make it to the 3.0 turbo class. The truck will be a dedicated puller seeing as I already have the spare truck now I just need the transmission and a worthy power plant.

I dont see why not, just as long as the work is done right I dont see why there would be a problem.

From what I've seen the 7.3 is a better pulling motor. Around here none of the built 6.0s have any luck, but I know there's guys kickin arse with 6.0s. Seems like there a lot of good solid parts out there to build a 7.3

With what we have to work with right now, HEUI ain't going to cut it in 3.0. Well maybe, depends where you're located. 2.6 is at least 750+, 3.0 1100+...

Yes sir that's about right, for 3.0 (someday) I do plan on P-pumping it, but for 2.6 HEUI will do just fine for now.

I also live on the state line of Illinois and Indiana, on the Illinois side the 2.6 trucks are a little behind the Indiana trucks, but thats just what I have seen from pulling Pro4x4 for the past 20 years with the family (this may be a wrong observation)

Also, could some one put a longer stroke in the 6.0 to help with the cubic in displacement for the 2.6 class?

Around here you could safely bump those numbers up a hundred or two. I'd say a 750hp truck would have a very hard time competing for the win here in 2.6. With shops like Danville, Haisley, and some others running around the few Fords get whooped on pretty hard. I'd say that until something big happens in the HEUI world they won't have a shot here.

Now as to what motor to use, i would go with a 7.3. With the limitations of the HEUI system you'll want all the displacement you can get. You also have the options of going with a mechanical pump, or CR(hopefully). Which i think that if Swamps can make the CR system work good on these 7.3's then IMO we will have a shot at being able to compete with the big dogs.

I'll echo what he says about going with the 7.3. Way more options to make more HP down the road when HEUI won't cut it anymore.

A 2.6 dodge here claims his pump was dynoed on a similarly built motor, and hit over 1000hp. But his truck sure don't run like it has 1000hp, but he did finish top 10 down at that big pull in Platte City, MO

The only reason I was thinking about using the 6.0 is the availability of the engine. I can't get a hold of a 7.3 around here that hasn't been totally trashed. I would love to use the 7.3, but I really having a hard time finding one, if you see one floating around would you let me know?

can some one help a fellow find an engine at a decent price? Just the engine, I don't need anything else yet.

If you're looking for an engine, might want to try to get the electronics to go with it. Might save the trouble finding them down the road if you'd put say a 6.0 in a older truck.

if your looking for a 7.3 i have a complete one out of a 99 superduty. Motor is all stock and has every thing on it still turbo, injectors, and so on. Its a little rusty due to being a central Ny truck. The rest of the truck fell apart around the motor which was still going strong with 240,xxx on it and i have all the wiring. Ill sell you the motor for $500 and if you need wiring work out a price on that.
