Making vegetable oil blend Diesel Fuel (VOBDF) by blending Coleman Fuel with vegetable oil
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwmPvDLZUjs

The point of this experiment and video is simply to demonstrating that some solvents will dissolve readily into WVO. It is purely of academic interest and is in no way an attempt to encourage its use or recommend its use over petroleum distillates. I am just posting these experimental blending videos to show that there is a range of solvents that could be blended with waste oils to make diesel fuel. It is up to the user to decide whether they wish to further the experiment by running it on an engine. If you do, then please post your findings on this thread.

The point is making diesel fuel out of waste oils is a form of recycling. And, there are many people making viable and sustainable diesel fuels by blending various solvents with various waste oils. Therefore, there is no reason why the solvents used to thin waste oil need not also be recycled, therefore it is conceivable that someone may come across some recycled solvent and consider using it as a solvent for making diesel fuel by blending it with waste oils. Thus, diesel fuel made from blending waste oils with waste solvents is essentially recycling, therefore it is fundamentally a green activity

And, anyone engaged in blending or making biodiesel should most definitely wear protective gear, such as: safety goggles or shield, respirator with activated charcoal cartridge, chemical apron, have a water hose under pressure and a fire extinguisher handy whenever processing fuel.# That process should also be done in a well-ventilated shed or out-building or outside away from buildings, because the biodiesel process has gotten away from some people, exploded and caused severe burns on major portions of the operator's body and set the house and even neighborhood on fire.#However, there is no report yet of a blender having the same accident, but blending is nonetheless a potential hazard.

Please dispose of your waste products responsibly.

Arent some of these solvents compounds that may or may not be legal to be burned for fuel? Im not implying they are or arent. Have you checked into any of this? I was told after X gals of anything that you are required to pay tax. Granted it would be hard to trace but with the # of people getting dipped here lately I wouldnt be surprised if they were trying to find a way.

I stopped running wmo because I was told that if I was dipped they could ask me to prove what is in my tank(I know, I thought the buren of proof was theirs).

I like your posts and like your ingenuity when it comes to experimental blending. Any results to post?

I wonder how they handle some of the newer semi's I've read about that burn crankcase oil? They have a fresh oil tank that refills the crankcase and the fuel system pulls a small amount of used oil out of the crankcase and recycles it as fuel. Granted it's a small amount but just about any amount of WMO will turn your fuel black.

Still waiting on naptha Jeff....

Thanks for the comments. Yes, legal issues are more in some nations than in others, and it might become a major issue in the USA. I had not heard that people were getting their fuel tank dipped here in the USA. The only solution is for the waste oil fuel advocates to filibuster the government for making our activities legal.

Chris, a naptha video is coming soon. I just picked up cans of four more solvents at the hardware store and will be shooting those videos this week. I still have a video on one more solvent I shot 2 weeks ago to upload.

What cave do you live in that you haven't heard of anyone being dipped in the US? They will sit outside cattle auctions in the south and dip all of the trucks in attendance, and if you have a locking gas cap, they'll be waiting for you when you come out. It hasn't caught on around here where I am, but that is just for light duty trucks, the big rigs get dipped often. It's a HEFTY fine if you're caught running something that isn't a taxed fuel.

I have been reading and contributing to biofuels discussions on most biofuels forums for about 6 years. While there are a lot of references to people being dipped in the UK, this is the first I have heard of someone in the USA reporting being dipped. I can see why the DOT would focus on big rigs for dipping, because they are an easier target. I guess it would be unwise to put a pumper sticker on the rear of our vehicles stating "I Burn Waste Oil." But, my oil processor is on my rear pumper. So, I had better work out something in case I get dipped.

I can tell you they dip here in Colorado. They dip in Kansas. They dip in Texas. They dip in Wyoming. I have either been dipped or seen them dip in all of those states.

Ive personally been with two people in IL here. Ive heard of dozens of others. Its common in rural, agricultural areas and anywhere that those types of activities take place. My buddies dad got his motorcoach dipped a month ago on the east coast going to some damn race.
