Stroked95 05-15-2008, 01:58 AM Check, third brake light, underhood fuses, multifunction switch on column, and wiring in the steering column.
Aljay 05-15-2008, 02:09 AM :whs:
turboculosis 05-16-2008, 02:33 AM will do. Thanks!!
old man dave 05-16-2008, 06:50 AM Also check the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) on top of the rear axle housing.
Speedy 05-16-2008, 01:31 PM MIne done this ended up the pressure sensor on the master cylinder was shorting out because it was leaking fluid out and it ate the coating off the wires. It blew one of the fuses in the engine compartment fuse box finallly and quit working all together also it made my backup lights quit working. I guess this is a problem for ford according to my ford dealer. They got an updated part out for it and it runs like $17 I put it on and it fixed the problems.

X2
This sensor i believe is on recall due to it can cause a fire. (some years)
The update sensor is red IICR.

Madvan 05-16-2008, 04:49 PM Recall was SD.
Bill
BlindViper 05-16-2008, 10:02 PM I thought the recall covered all vehicles without a diesel?
Speedy 05-19-2008, 01:35 PM they told me to keep my receipt on the part incase ford recalls it or something like that. But yeah the new part is totally different.
turboculosis 05-19-2008, 11:02 PM none of the fuses are blown so when i get a chance ill start looking deeper for the problem. Thanks again, Chris
slowleak 05-20-2008, 12:11 AM its your clock spring. 60 bucks form advanced auto
JohnDeere9610 05-20-2008, 12:59 AM I'm in the same boat. my cc dont work either
BlindViper 05-20-2008, 01:04 AM Make sure to check the 3rd brake light.
slowleak 05-20-2008, 01:04 AM change your clockspring
JohnDeere9610 05-20-2008, 01:08 AM what is the clock spring
slowleak 05-20-2008, 01:29 AM its a coil of "wire" in the steering wheel that allows the controls to still function while the wheel can still turn.
its basically a coil of wire, and as it starts to wear out, your controls will intermitintly work untill one day the contact is gone. thats when you loose all your steering wheel functions. does your horn still work?
Tom S 05-20-2008, 02:17 AM I would like to have the part number for that new sensor. That is the fire causing part.
Tom
JohnDeere9610 05-20-2008, 02:34 AM Yes horn blows But the driver dont so do ask that. lol
slowleak 05-20-2008, 02:47 AM lol dont worry, i wont ask
does the lights on the cruise control buttons work? at first just my cruise control would work when it wanted to, then i had to honk my horn to set it, then it all stoppe working.
JohnDeere9610 05-20-2008, 02:49 AM My lights I dont think have ever worked. I know the coast button has always be flakey. But the cruise has always set fine. where do I get this coil and how hard is it to change?
slowleak 05-20-2008, 02:52 AM advanced auto. you need a steering wheel puller, BUT the one i used messed up my steering wheel. i then tried an ac clutch puller, worked perfectly. thats the only "special tool" you will need, the rest is basic tools
JohnDeere9610 05-20-2008, 02:54 AM Guess I will check that out in the next couple of days
clayc_989 05-20-2008, 05:41 AM I had the same problem as Speedy but there were no blown fuses...Just enough liquid in it to trip the connection some how. Either way, got it replaced and I haven't had a problem since. Might wanna make sure that's it before you start replacing the more expensive parts....I learned the hard way.
slowleak 05-20-2008, 06:36 AM ok just realized this is an obs thread, i dunno how yalls trucks work compard to mine. so see what happens with everything else first
Speedy 05-20-2008, 08:26 PM Check that sensor on the master cylinder if its wet thats most likely the problem
JohnDeere9610 05-20-2008, 11:39 PM I tryed jumping that plug and it still didnt work.
turboculosis 05-21-2008, 01:01 AM Check that sensor on the master cylinder if its wet thats most likely the problem
which sensor is it on the master cylinder?
JohnDeere9610 05-21-2008, 01:41 AM which sensor is it on the master cylinder?
Its the pressure switch out on the end/ top of master cylinder there is a two wire plug on it.
TERRCO 05-21-2008, 02:18 AM I have had 2 problems with my cc.The first was the brake switch. It was shorted just enough to kill my cc and flicker the brake lights once in a while. The 2nd which was similar to yours ended up being a broken tab holding the neutral safety switch in to the right of the clutch pedal. It had come loose and because I had bypassed the starting part long ago it took awhile to find the problem.
Stroked95 05-21-2008, 02:21 AM TERRCO- so all you did was fix the tab and it worked, or did you have to replace something? Just curious because I've also by passed the nuetral start switch.
JohnDeere9610 05-21-2008, 03:49 AM My backup lights arent working either could that have anything to do with it? I just try and find that problem tomorrow.
Speedy 05-21-2008, 01:13 PM Hey JD 9610 my backup lights quit working once that pressure sensor shorted out I guess its on same fuse as the backup lights. Dont recall it being listed on the cover as on that fuse but it was.
JohnDeere9610 05-21-2008, 05:44 PM I check all fuses and they are good. I used a meter on everyone so I know they are good. how does that pressure switch work? normal open or closed trying to check it with a meter.
Speedy 05-22-2008, 12:37 PM I'm not sure mine was just leaking fluid bad raound the top and the plug and when I replaed the blown fuse i seen small smoke and sizzle on the plug area right before it blowed the fuse. Is you pressure switch leaking fluid if not then you may have a different problem. Good Luck.
JohnDeere9610 05-22-2008, 06:53 PM pressure switch is dry. changed the transmission range sel. On the side of the tranny and It didnt fix a thing. So now I'm way in the dark on this. No back up lights or cruise. I dont know if they are linked or not.
Speedy 05-23-2008, 02:38 AM  Don't no man.
old man dave 05-23-2008, 05:45 AM I would like to have the part number for that new sensor. That is the fire causing part.

Tom S 05-24-2008, 02:33 PM I did some reading on this subject and it looks like the fire issue recall only applies to the gasser trucks.
Tom
TERRCO 05-26-2008, 05:42 AM Stroked95 I should have replaced the pigtail there but I just put a ziptie for now and its been ok.The plug was workin itself loose.

slowleak 05-26-2008, 08:28 PM did you check the fuses? could also be a relay.
