Light illuminates here & there, sometimes, for up to 15 minutes. no codes thrown on scanguage. So on this early 1999 E350 psd, if the fuel filter on top of the engine starts to restrict, will it trip SES? I do have a 2 micron prepump dahl water seperator filter on frame. I thought the factory was 10 micron & thus , would never get clogged. If I put a guage on the rear of head, on drivers side, would this show a lower reading if filter is starting to clog? I dont want to replace filter if I dont have to, & thought guage would be a good helpfull additional analizing tool. Maybe run a small SS line (with guage) up to hood area so I can do a quick visual now & then, seeing if pressures are within acceptable parameters. BTW, vacuum guage between dahl filter & pump reads appox 2 in.

Maybe the scanguage cannot pick it up? (soft code).
You tryied while the lamp was on?
I would try with another brand scan

Is the 2in, psi or HG?
Allowable is 6in hg's at wot.
2x2.036=4.072HG

Does WOT make more pull? I thought the fuel is constant with the unused returned to tank.
I'll have to check guage on the in or psi.

Its not just the vac. The volume changes also.
Spec max is 6in HG at WOT.
If you are high. It could just be a filter. If not the filter check into the rollover valve in the tank. Its what allows air into the tank so the fuel can come out of it. An easy test is to run the van with the fuel cap off.

I dont like electric fuel pump systems that are setup as pullers they should all be pushers. This is why you see most fuel pumps in the tank or with a sump.

If'n you got an SES light, you have codes. You need a reader that will read these Ford codes. Just because the light goes out, it does not mean the codes disappear. Some codes set the light after they have been triggered twice within a certain time period. If they don't see a second code for awhile, they may turn off the SES light. The only thing that might set a code in the fuel system is the fuel pump itself.

Until you get the codes, you are just guessing.

If your only getting the SES light at WOT it's probably low HPOP pressure, the low pressure is is created by the chip the factory HPOP can't keep the pressure up at WOT. Time for med. or big oil. But like Cool Canuck said whith out the codes your guessing.

madvan, Vacuum guage is "inches". I'll have to get my AE program going. I finally found a laptop just for the van. I couldn't get my girls vista to work properly. & didn't want to screw up her school work. Funny, the light hasn't come on for 2 days now. But I will still get a scan. Hope the AE can get all codes.

my vote is here....mainly because I have been down that road...the newer vans have the later style HPOP that gives about 30% more oil ...my 98 would set the ses light often until I switched to the newer style HPOP...

2in HG is fine.
Run the AE for codes. It will pull them if any.
You did not have any complaints on how it runs while the lamp was on, so
it could be many things at this point setting it.

Try to force a cel driving it different ways.
Random cel is a PITA. (wiring)

Still no light. Weird. But seems like when it was tripping light, I would hear louder crackle/clatter, for a moment.
