5". Wish I'd gotten 5" instead of 4". Now I'm married, poor, and you know the rest. No more mods for me.

Is a 5" louder than a 4" inside the cab? If so how much louder.

You will see zero performance benefit with a 5 over a 4. You will probably see some clearance issues with a 5 that a 4 won't have and no matter what anyone tells you a 3.5" downpipe is perfectly fine. 4" downpipes are just an unnecessary pain in the ass.

I love my 5 in straight pipe, but you can not mount your spare under the truck anymore. Its sounds really crazy when you put your foot in it. I do a lot of HWY driving and it does not bother me at all. I had a 4in with a muffler and I have not noticed much more road noise at HWY speeds. I got whole exhaust for $350 shipped from farm boys diesel.

thanks for the info and link how was the quality of the kit you got from farm boys? it fit ok? or did you have to "make" it fit?

I run 5" pipe. All my stuff is from Grand Rock who sponsors exhaust stuff for me. I only run 5" because the outlet on my primary charger is 5".
I'm also in the neighborhood of 850-900 hp so there may be a very slight benefit to 5"

did you install your mbrp kit yourself and if so how did it fit?

yeeep id say theres a bit of a horse pressure difference that you would want the 5" im not goin for numbers like just doin sct with delete and a mild tune is all i want nothin fancy. any recomendations on what system to go with there is alot of manufactures out there i just dont want to buy a kit that doesnt fit for crap?

I would talk to Paul at Complete Performance OR Nate at Performance Truck Products. Either of them will get you setup with a good quality kit.

Mine fits just fine, dare I say Like a Glove!!

http://www.robertakeret.com/photo_lan/oj.jpg

and pretty sure it netted me about 140HP over the stock exhaust, so thats gotta be like 100hp over a 4" system...

Ok, now on a serious note. I have a magnaflow 5" kit that uses a 4" downpipe. I still have my factory spare on the truck (as useless as it is) The exhaust comes within 1/2" of the tire I would say, but no rub or burnt rubber smell or any of that jazz so no trouble there. When I installed my 4" downpipe I had read all the issues people were having with them rubbing on the firewall or rubbing on the up pipe bellows and seemed it was a 50/50 deal with people having trouble and others not, so I decided to risk it. Mine was tough to put in but not bad. Only hard part was pushing the upper downpipe piece up between the up pipes and the firewall, but once the flange was clear it was smooth and easy sailing. Now there is NO spare room (maybe 1/4") around the pipe but it does not rub. Now where I have had rubbing is on the 2nd bolt for the transmission crossmember. It rubbed the first time about 5 miles after installing the exhaust, got it fixed and then it rubbed again after the cab was off for head studs. Otherwise no trouble.

Now with that said I most certainly can't garuntee you won't have any trouble with a 4" downpipe, and as others say the 3.5" will work just the same. Personally I love the deep tone from the 5" system, seems like a bit more of a rumble and I would do it again if I were in the same boat.

Go with the 3.5"
The outlet on your charger is 3.5"....why would you need 4?
You will gain nothing but potentially slower spool. Bigger is not always better.

The quality of the kit was far better than what I was exception. I did not have to "make it fit", but I did end up welding a hanger on to make it look a little cleaner. Over all I would recommend the kit. Also, the shipping was fast. I got it within 4 days of ordering.

I just put the 5" MRBP exhaust on my truck and it sounds fricken amazing!!!! Its a 3.5" dp into 5" it's got a resonator I guess but it won't restrict anything. I bought a 6" tip but when I hammer down it raps off damn nice lol!! Definitely would recommend it. (I have a 35" spare under there and no rub about an 1" away actually)

As stated already, you wont get any performance gains by going with a 5" over the 4" the best thing about the 5" is the sound, it has a nice deep tone. I prefer the 5" sound over the 4" .

got the 5" system on las night. i went with diamond eye system 3.5" dp to 5" all the way back to a 6" tip. seems to me it whistled more at idle with the stock system before now its kinda like a muffled wind. but when you give it a tiny bit of throttle it really whistles laud but i didnt really care much about the whistle so much when it comes on to boost it sings a supper deep pissed off rumble! and thats what i wanted i havnt even turned my stereo on yet i like it so much lol! just wanted to thank you guys for all the input and help its much appreciated :psn:

Iv got a 3.5 dp to 4inch to a 6 inch tip no muffler so it's loud I love it.
It was loud I thought then I installed my 190s and sct=Idp tunes and now it's F-ing loud
I'm a big fan of what Iv got.

I would not recommend a after market dp there a pain in the ass for when your performing repairs.
And I really don't think you make a gain with a bigger dp
