When you just turn on the key or while the starter is turning.

Is it possible you batts are weak and when the starter kicks in the lower voltage is causing a relay to kick in and out? The other one I would probably do is pull the starter and look it over for a start.

Loud ticking noise from inside the dash? Your batteries are headed south on ya.

Would be helpful if you could give more than a one sentence explanation of what is wrong. Then we wouldn't have to do the guessing game...

Check battery terminals for corrosion, and/or being loose.

Check battery cables for damage, corrosion.

Put a batter charger on it, or some jumper cables. If it goes away batteries are fried or you have a bad connection.

x's 2.

I have to tighten/clean my battery terminals every now and again when it does it and it'll go away after that for a few months.

A weird thing happened to my truck last year. it would not start well at all so I changed glow plugs. Still hard to start. I installed new batteries since the original ones were still in the truck. No help there. Then someone told me to look into new battery cables. I siad that mine were fine and there was no corrosion. He said change them anyways and that was the problem. Who would have thought cables could fail and not look corroded....
