Pulling with the 05-up front end.

Hey all, I'm gonna be aquiring an 06 truck within the next month and was wondering what you all do for the radius arm front end to stop it from hopping? I've seen all the 4 link kits but $1000?! Is there a cheaper and just as effective way of getting the front end to hook? Thanks!

no one has really nailed it other than lubeowner i think, he built a bracket that puts an additional 2 sets of shocks in front of the axle, schieds added a shock at a 60 degree angle in addition to the stock shock, but i have heard it hops but not verified by the truck owner

Yeah I've seen some videos of his pulls before and it looks really good. Hopefully he'll chime in with some insight here.

Will the shock setup help with drag racing also or is a 4 link going to be the best all around bet for controlling it? I'm going to run weights also up front.

I know a guy that runs air bags in his front end on a 06 and it never does the front bounce.

Why can't you strap the front end down? I know its not ideal but wouldn't it work?

We tried that with a 08 6.4L strapping the front caused a bad rear end bounce.

Ive strapped the front on my 08 several times never had a problem. But I would like to run it without strapping because I think your going to get better traction if you can let the front end hang. I think Im going to try adding a shock up front and see what happens. There doesnt seem to be a perfected way to fix the problem with stock suspension that I have seen.

We thought at one time we had the suspension fixed early on last season. Then when we added the twin pumps the whole thing went out the window.

Here is the worst pull ever on the American Ride for front end bounce, second hook after twin pumps. Video quality is bad but you can see the front end all over the place.

Here is the first hook after twin pumps, it got bouncing pretty bad in the start of the pull. Guy out out of the pedal some and it came out of it for the most part. The thing we most noticed in this video was how the tires not only went up and down but also right to left.

Then we added the extra shock up front to get rid of the up down motion and two more steering stabilizers to take out the left right movement. It pulled perfect for the rest of the year. Like this.

strapping down the front end really tight made my truck bounce almost off the grounds, i like the idea of the dual steering stabilizer and the extra shocks up front does anyone have any pictures of this set up?

That extra shock really helped as well as the sterring ones. Completely different even on a tighter track. That announcer was throwing a little bit of fit about someone lol.

Yeah I think I conversed with you a bit back on another thread. I live right down town Statham. I see you pull at the White Plains LATP. I hope to make it there and watch sometime soon. I see they have a pull this Saturday. I'll have to catch it in the summer. If I ever run across you in the area, I stop and say hello.

we are going sat to the pulls but i cant pull this weekend. my other truck is not running so my red truck is all i got to work out of for right now so if it brakes i cant pull a trailer with my wifes car dont thnk the 4 banger will like 7000lb to much. there is a pull in westminster sc we go to a good bit to lot of dodges but still a good pull.

I did some pulling last summer with my 2010 6.4, I just ratchet strapped the front end tight and lowered the rear suspensions stops like two inchs and it pulled fine, No bounce, I think a little in the back on my 2nd pull but i say i should have had traction bars. Also the type of tires combined with different types of dirt, and air pressure can cause bounce too, so i wouldn't always jump to conclusion that it is the suspension. I say strap the front end and give it hell!

Hey guys it's my opinion that I would not strap the front end down. With years of experience with pulling gas and diesel trucks we've always made the front ends as soft as we could, and used a good shock to stabilize the front. If you can, build a simple setup like we did for the American Ride. All we did was put one extra shock on the front on each side as far forward as you can so it would have more leverage. As far as the rear end i would block the rear end and use traction bars if your rules allow them. When blocking the rear end make sure your blocks will fit in without jacking the truck in the air. If you jack your truck up to far it will act like a wedge, which will make the front-end bounce.

I strapped the front end down on mine and it pulls pretty well with only a little front end bounce. I also have rancho 9000 shocks set to maximum rebound. Hey Moppy, get some damn tires so you can pull in sc!
